Orthopedic orthodontics
Choosing the right treatments now reduces the risks of tomorrow.
Orthopedic orthodontics
Certain orthodontic treatments are specifically offered to children by our team, such as the mandibular or maxillary advancement appliance and the palatal expander. These are two types of treatments performed during a child's growth to facilitate orthodontic treatment and help achieve proper alignment of teeth or jaw at a young age. By initiating treatment at a younger age, it is possible to avoid surgery in adulthood.
The mandibular or maxillary advancement appliance and the palatal expander are two orthodontic treatments offered to children during their growth. Starting orthodontic intervention at a younger age can help avoid certain surgeries later in life and reduce the risk of sleep apnea.
The palatal expander
The palatal expander is a device used in combination with orthodontics. Its purpose is to widen the palate, creating more space for the teeth and allowing for optimal occlusion. The space created by the expander also facilitates the proper repositioning of the teeth. It is typically used as the first phase of orthodontic treatment.
The mandibular or maxillary advancement appliance
When your lower or upper jaw is not in the proper position (it is too set back), the use of a mandibular or maxillary advancement appliance is necessary as the first phase of orthodontic treatment. This appliance helps reposition the jaw, as the position of the jaw directly affects the realignment of the teeth. This step is essential for some children to achieve the desired results.
